Application and enrolment

You may enter the Honours Year at the beginning of either semester 1 or semester 2, and take it either full-time (for 2 semesters) or part-time (over 4 semesters).

If you are interested in starting in semester 2 it is wise to consult with a potential supervisor at the end of the previous calendar year as supervisors usually plan (both financially and logistically) for the calendar year ahead and may fully commit themselves well before the start of semester 2.

A pre-honours meeting for all interested 3rd years is held around Week 8 of each semester (this may vary from year to year). Students will be advised of the exact time and location of this meeting via announcements made on the BEES website and the BEES students mailing list. Prospective honours students are also encouraged to attend the final seminars given by honours students at the end of each semester. Details of these seminars are advertised via the BEES website and BEES students mailing list.

Once you have a firm commitment from a supervisor fill in the BEES Honours Application Form and lodge it at the BSB Student Office (Room G27).  Your application will be assessed to ensure that you satisfy the entry requirements and confirm your acceptance by a supervisor.  Once your application has been approved then you will be notified via email about your enrolment (late enrolments are allowed but not encouraged). Honours enrolment is completed by Alex in the BSB Student Office who will consult with you on your enrolment either in person or via email. Note that Honours students cannot self-enrol into Honours courses via myUNSW.

For further information or assistance with your Honours application please contact the BSB Student Office or email

Students from outside UNSW are invited to apply for Honours in the School of BEES. Outside students must also submit a separate application to enrol at the University, an "Application for Admission to an Honours program" form can be found at the following link:

This should be lodged with the Direct Admissions Office at UNSW (02 9385 3656), usually by early December for semester 1 start, and they will assess your grades and send advice of your application to the School via the Associate Dean. You must submit an academic transcript with your application. If final results are not available when you submit this application you must forward them as soon as possible together with a statement indicating that you have completed all requirements for the degree and are eligible to graduate.
Please send results to:
Admissions Office (Honours),
The University of New South Wales,

You will be notified of the result of your application by mid February.

Any non-UNSW student seeking admission should consider applying for a UNSW Science Honours Relocation Scholarship.
