Honours Structure and Requirements

EFFECTIVE FOR STUDENTS COMMENCING IN S1 2014

The variety of honours programs offered by BEES means that there is no universal honours enrolment model across the entire cohort.  However most students from S1 2014 should follow the structure outlined below.

The majority of honours enrolment is allocated to Research Project.  This is partitioned into BEES 4516 in the first session of enrolment and BEES 4514 in the final session.  Despite the unequal allocation of the 36 UOC for your project across S1 and S2, it is expected that students work on their project over the entire academic year.  Many students will have completed a significant proportion of their thesis research before the start of S1.

BEES4514 and 4522 are both graded courses.  Students will be given a mark and a grade (e.g.  87 HD or 79 DN) similar to that of most of undergraduate courses.

BEES4516 is not a graded course and students will therefore only receive a grade of Satisfactory or Unsatisfactory.

Special notes for Students Starting in S2:

  • The enrolment process is similar to that for students commencing in S1 but the timeframe is relatively short.
  • Some components/modules for BEES4516 may only be offered in Session 1.  Because of this, it is recommended that students who plan to start their Honours in Semester 2 do these components in the last semester of their 3rd year.  Contact the BSB Student Office for more information.
